Whew!!!!

I have just completed the biggest project I have ever taken on! I love to be challenged and pushed to try new things. I good friend of mine works for Myrick, Gurosky and Associates. They are a commercial construction company specializing in building and remodeling churches throughout the southeast. Through a casual conversation with another friend of mine, she found out that I make window treatments, bedding, etc.. So, while I was at the beach this summer I received an email from her asking to give a quote for "theatrical type" panels for Shades Mountain Baptist Church. I immediately grabbed a pencil and piece of paper and started figuring yardage and cost, all the while thinking "I probably won't get the job". Well, little did I know! About a month or so after that email, I got a call and was told that the job was mine if I was still interested! We met, did a little more figuring, ordered almost 300 yards of fabric and began sewing. Initially, I made 6 panels that were 25 feet long by 20 feet wide! That was a lot of fabric and a lot of backaches! I even had my Mother, Daddy, Mother in law and Charlie in on the gig (Thanks)! As most of my family and friends know, I work really well under pressure and a deadline which worked well in this situation. Construction companies in general want it yesterday, so I enjoyed the challenge.

I received another call last weekend that they wanted another panel to go above the very large projector screen on the stage. More figuring, more fabric, and Oh-they needed it by Friday!!!! I picked up the fabric late Monday and began sewing! This panel measured 54 feet wide by 5 feet tall so it was a little easier to manage!

The third call came on Wednesday afternoon. They needed me to cover 14 acoustical panels that hang on the wall. Eight of the panels measured 3 feet by 10 feet and six measured 5 feet by 10 feet! I'll post pictures soon.

Through this whole process, I have thought of the hundreds of youth that will use this beautiful facility. I have thought of the lives that will be changed through Christ, the commitments that will be made and the God that will be praised! I thought of my own "youth" and how excited she is to be a part of a church and youth group. This Sunday, she will be baptized at our church. She accepted Christ and has made the commitment to live for Him! This is the moment Charlie and I have prayed for! I pray that those same commitments are made in the new youth facility at Shades Mountain Baptist Church! To God be the Glory-GREAT things HE has done!

A Little Sampling!

Here is a sampling of the fabrics and trims that I will be working on over the next few weeks. Don't drool too much! The fabrics in the first three photos came from Forsyth Fabrics in Atlanta. The look of natural fibers in fabric is the latest craze. I love the texture that these fabrics bring to a room. Check back for pictures of how I use the fabrics!

I'm Still Here!!

Well, now that school is back in full swing my calendar has been full as a tick! I have been blessed with so many projects all at once. That is usually how it works, either feast or famine!

Last Thursday, I went with two of my friends to Atlanta to shop for fabric for their homes. Of course, we went to Forsyth and found more than we could fit in the car! I'll post some of the fabrics we picked for their homes in the next day or two, Yum-Yum!
Today, I went to check out a church in the Birmingham area that is adding an unbelievable youth room. They need "theatre-like" drapery panels for the stage area to hide electrical boxes, doorways, etc. I was a little nervous when I first walked in the room-the walls measure 24feet from ceiling to floor! I do believe these will be the longest panels I have or will ever make! Nothing fancy, just black panels with large grommets that can slide along steel rods.

I also met a very sweet lady that was referred to me by my pastor's mom. I will be making a bed skirt for a very high king size bed. She purchased a bed in a bag set and as we all know, the bed skirts are never long enough. I enjoyed getting to know her.

While you wait on pictures of my newest projects, enjoy some from the past!

First Day of School

Maggie's first day of 6th grade is today! It is hard to believe how fast time has passed. I remember the first day of 4k at Hilldale Baptist Church as if it were yesterday

The first day of school is always exciting for Maggie. Like most girls, the most important dilemma is what to wear! From the shoes all the way up to the hair. We went back to school shopping last week and had the best time! She picked out some cute things from Delia's, Forever 21, JC Penney, and a few other places. She gave her Daddy a fashion show when he got home from work that night. She looked adorable in everything she put on. We have a tradition of taking a picture each year on the first day of school. This picture is from 1st Grade. Charlie and I were talking last night about how bittersweet the first day of school is as we see Maggie maturing and growing into a teenager. I am always a little sad when I drop her off that first day. We are thankful for her always. This picture was taken the first day of her 4th grade year. She actually entered the Middle School that year due to overcrowding. I was a little nervous seeing her move up, but everything turned out just fine. She had a great teacher which made all the difference in the world.

We love you Piggle and are proud of who you are!
